Mission<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The mission of the Highlands Council of PTA’s DEI Committee is to provide member schools and leaders within the Northeast L.A., Downtown L.A., Glassell Park, Silver Lake\/Echo Park and Los Feliz areas with the support and guidance to pursue and promote diversity, equity and inclusion in their respective schools and communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Highlands Council PTA DEI Committee will collaborate with member PTA units to establish a council-wide DEI program that sets a foundation encouraging and generating a positive and welcoming environment for the school community to thrive.  Resources will be offered to educate and train students, parents, teachers and staff to create advocacy and self-empower towards a more inclusive and equitable society. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Goals<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To promote values of diversity and inclusion with an equity lens, the HCPTA DEI Committee goals are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • to encourage units to annually self-assess and engage PTA board and membership according to the National PTA DEI Local Leader Guide rubric to determine unit\u2019s DEI plan and priorities<\/li>
  • to elect a PTA board and recruit membership that is most-reflective of the whole community<\/li>
  • to plan activities and communications that are welcoming and inclusive of the community, providing accommodations for access when needed<\/li>
  • to openly support and foster programs that eliminate bias, prejudice and discrimination of and among beliefs, practices and policies.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n
