<\/a>Roster of PTA Officers and Chairmen 2013- 2014<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>

\nSome units have not turned in their PTA Officer and Chairmen Roster. \u00c2\u00a0The California State PTA is ready to place these units in “Not in Good Standing (NGS)”. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
\n

This means that the State PTA Board of Directors can vote to withdraw the unit’s charter, resulting in suspension of all unit activities for up to two years.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n

In order to comply, send in your unit’s roster to the Tenth District PTSA by faxing the form, or go to PTAEZ to submit the information online. \u00c2\u00a0You do not have to be a current PTAEZ subscriber to enter and complete the information, but if you are, you can access the\u00c2\u00a0Officer\/Board Member Contact program from within your unit\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s existing PTAEZ account.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>2012 Tax Returns and RFF-1 Forms Are Now Due<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

If your unit’s fiscal year ends on June 30, 2013, \u00c2\u00a0the IRS 990N or 990EZ, the Calfornia Franchise Tax Board 199N or 199, and the California Attorney General’s Office RRF-1 forms are now due.<\/p>\n

The last day to file without incurring late filing is November 15, 2013. It is important that your unit file these forms regardless of gross income.\u00c2\u00a0Units that have not filed for the last three years will result in the IRS automatically revoking their non-profit status. Do not let this happen to your organization.<\/b><\/p>\n

If your non-profit status is revoked, the reinstatement process is very costly and time consuming. \u00c2\u00a0In addition, your unit will be required to close your account immediately and the books and assets turned in to the Tenth District. So do not let this happen.<\/p>\n

Important: \u00c2\u00a0If your unit received a letter from the IRS, the Franchise Tax Board or the California State Attorney General’s office stating that your unit’s status may be revoked, please contact Anvi Kevany, at treasurer@tenthdistrictptsa.org as soon as possible. \u00c2\u00a0Do not contact the goverment agency!<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you need assistance, or are not sure whether or not past returns have been filed, contact the Highlands Council as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0Treasurer’s Reports and Annual Budget<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It is important that your unit treasurer present a written treasurer’s report on a regular basis. The report must cover the period from the last Executive Board meeting to the next Executive Board Meeting, and from the last Association Meeting to the next Association Meeting.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The report must reflect the beginning and ending balance; and total deposits and expenses incurred for that time period.<\/div>\n

Treasurer’s reports and the annual budget must be submitted to the Highlands Council. Contact Cindy Wong at treasurer@highlandscouncilpta.org to email the copies, or if you have questions or need more information.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

<\/a>Insurance Payment and Workman’s Comp Form<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The insurance payment of $202.00 and Workman’s Comp form are due to the Highlands Council on November 15, 2013. \u00c2\u00a0They have to be forwarded to the Tenth District by December 6, 2013. \u00c2\u00a0After December 6, a late fee of $25 will be added to the insurance premium. \u00c2\u00a0Insurance premium payments are made to Highlands Council of PTA’s.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Workman’s Comp must be completed and submitted at the same time, regardless of whether or not your unit employed someone. \u00c2\u00a0Usually, if your unit hired a childcare provider, you will need to report it on the form.<\/p>\n

Remember to check PTA insurance guidelines for appropriate PTA activities as summarized in the red\/yellow\/green light section of the Insurance Loss and Prevention Guide<\/em>. If, as a PTA president, you did not receive an Insurance Loss and Prevention Guide<\/em> from your predecessor, rest assured that a new copy for 2014 will be arriving in your mailbox during the month of November. The Tenth District PTA can still provide an electronic copy of the 2013 guide.\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a>Scholarship and Grant Opportunities<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

PTA members and volunteers, credentialed classroom teachers, counselors and school nurses are eligible for Continuing Education Scholarships<\/a> from California State PTA!<\/p>\n

These $500 scholarships could help further your education and pursue studies in higher education. This scholarship can provide funds at accredited colleges, universities, trade or technical schools.<\/p>\n

Download your application<\/a> today. \u00c2\u00a0Due date:<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0 November 15, 2013.<\/p>\n

Scholarships are also available for Graduating High School Seniors<\/b>. Students who are PTA members at a PTA high school, and involved in outstanding volunteer service can apply for a scholarship to continue their education at an accredited college. Applications are due February 1. Learn more.<\/a><\/p>\n

PTA Program Grants<\/b>
\nPlus, your PTA can earn grants to help fund programs supporting student success at your school. PTAs may apply for a grant (on average $500-$2,000 awarded) in four areas: Cultural Arts, Parent Education, Outreach Translation and Healthy Lifestyles. Applications are due November 15. <\/a>Tenth District Reflections Arts Program 2013-2014
\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

As a leader of this program, you will play a critical role in providing opportunities for students to explore and be involved in the arts. \u00c2\u00a0Students who participate in the Reflections program may not recognize themselves as artists when they sign up\u00e2\u20ac\u201cbut they will by the end of the Reflections celebrations! Any active PTA\/PTSA in good standing with its state has the ability to implement a Reflections program. \u00c2\u00a0 A step-by-step Local PTA\/PTSA Leader Reflections Guide that streamlines the whole process is available on the website, tenthdistrictptsa.org. \u00c2\u00a0Contact Mary Ann Garvey<\/a>, Tenth District PTSA Reflections Chair.<\/p>\n
