On June 16, 2021, the United States Congress overwhelmingly voted to pass a bill making Juneteenth a federal holiday. We join the nation in recognizing and celebrating Juneteenth, which commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States on June 19, 1865 – two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. As an organization, our PTA remains committed to our mission driven work to support all children, youth and families by supporting equity and developing new resources like the resolution from “Teaching Hard History: American Slavery in K-12 Education“, adopted in May 2021 by our California State PTA membership.
