PTA Engages on Key Issues at State Capitol

 

PTA leaders from across the state raised their voices in Sacramento last week at the 2013 Legislation Conference, urging legislators to commit to a long-term plan for adequately funding schools and promoting gun safety and mental health services.

Key state legislators, staff and experts including Assembly Education Chair Joan Buchanan, Assemblymember Nancy Skinner, Governor Brown’s Education Advisor Karen Stapf-Walters, Legislative Analyst Mac Taylor and communications/public policy lecturer Dan Schnur met with PTA leaders to discuss issues such as:

  • Proposed new school funding formula
  • Teacher evaluations
  • Services for foster children
  • Common Core Standards
  • State’s new assessment system
